TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Fascination for the English Language came to me at a very early age as a young child in Brazil.
My grandfather gave me a copy of the book series "Little House" by Laura Ingalls Wilder and as I read them, I became fascinated
not only with life in the U.S., but also with the language. He was a representative for the United States Information Service
(USIS) and as I listened to him converse with people from the United States, I became captivated by the language.
As a result, I started my long journey to where I am today. At the age of 13, I was formally teaching English to a bank manager
from Sao Paulo and was actually getting paid for it. My father was very proud of me. My pursuit of an academic career in teaching
languages has been a lifelong goal. I was awarded the highest grade in my elementary,
high school and university classes.
My formal teaching career started before I graduated from college at Pontifical Catholic University where I was
the Official English Language Tutor.
After graduating "Summa cum Laude", I was hired immediately as the youngest teacher
at the university. Teaching assignments included English Composition,
Grammar, Conversation and English Applied to Social Communication in Advertising , Public Relations and Library Systems.
With the demand for English as a pre-requisite for employment in Brazil,
it became apparent this was an opportunity for me to pursue my teaching career in another direction.
English as a Second Language (ESL) has become almost mandatory in the business environment. As a result,
I was employed by the best language schools in Campinas, Brazil. Many of these schools are still using books
I authored for their classes.
Teaching has always been a challenge for me to do my very best, whether it is in organization, curriculum or application.
It is the accomplishment of my students that has driven me to be my very best and to continually improve my teaching methodologies
for their benefit.
With my background in Brazil and in the United States, I can offer not only a full program of English/Portuguese
as a second language, but also the cultural diversity inherent with this experience.
